My New Girlfriend

Okay so Paige Richards plays an absolutely demented and truly unstable human being facing a break-up that apparently she did not choose. Madison Young plays both herself and has a cameo as Rita, the ex. Paige's performance is twisted, bordering on sickening. Madison plays along, and occasionally you get a glimpse of what looks like true terror in her eyes.

The plot is fairly straightforward, as far as kidnapping-bondage-rape scenarios go. There's a fair bit of struggling, a wicked clothespin torture scene where nearly every inch of Madison's lithe sexy body is covered in the wonderful little gadgets, and a fulfilling forced-orgasm scene with Madison roped to the bed in a sexy outfit. Nothing too out-of-the-box or out of the ordinary here, but it's all done very well.

The thing that did it for me was Paige, and the overall story arc of the plot. Most "crazy chick" stories have a loud and demanding dom as the main character - but Paige fills a totally different role. She's calm, and chooses her words carefully, but every time she speaks you can hear insanity ringing in her voice. Her demeanor is damn-near bipolar, she'll be raging mad one second and docile, caressing and loving of Madison the next. More than once through the movie she drops lines like "You're going to be my girlfriend, riiiight? And you're going to love me, riiiight?" The whole time her voice is constantly coming to a crescendo, like the possessed kids in horror movies often speak.

Speaking of movies with terrible plotlines, this isn't one of them. Sure, it's the same damn story in some way or another, but Paige Richards clearly had breaking with tradition in mind when she wrote this. SPOILER ALERT - Don't Read on if the Plot is Super-Important to you!!! Okay, so you're probably well-aware that most of these movies end with the captive finally submitting ala "Stockholm Syndrome." Well, the entire movie builds that way - Paige's whole schpiel in the basement dungeon about how Madison ought to "think about" how Paige took off the clamps to be kind and Madison's isolation in the tiny room play into the Stockholm approach. In fact, psychologists would view the entire plot save for the last minute or two to be exactly the kind of situation where Stockholm's develops.

The ending is where Paige the director brilliantly breaks form with classic psychology. After "Rita" shows up and Paige turns her away, we're all but convinced that Madison will be in love with Paige. Either that, or she'll have escaped. She does neither! The film ends with Madison still roped to the bed and writhing from her multiple forced orgasms and her best performance of fierce and malevolent eyes. She's actually seething with hatred towards Paige, and the movie fades out with absolutely no resolution. Madison neither falls in love and becomes Paige's new girlfriend, nor does she escape. She remains forever the unwilling torture subject for Paige's delusional fantasies. Clearly reflecting the post-modern art tradition, Paige Richard's My New Girlfriend is a shining example of what can only be dubbed postmodern porn.
