Who mentioned "overexposure"? We'll come to that later, in a different context. Not the 3D animated newsreader, Anna Nova is a superficially attractive German blonde but closer analysis reveals all the trappings of porno chic: piercing (top lip), tattoos, latex gear, fishnets and spike heels. It's a lazy stereotype of American porn stars that I've peddled myself before, but in fact many of the big names of German porn in the last decade have also sported bolt-ons, and Anna joins the list. The sex? Standard fare, I suppose, the usual positions enlivened by Devin's game attitude to the task. Van Bound (Bonus scene)
Not for the first time in recent weeks I find myself singling out a bonus scene that's more interesting than much of the feature. This is a 20-minute bondage short that features the buxom (though sadly "enhanced") beauty Vanessa Blue at Lex's mercy. She's in red lingerie, ball-gagged and tied to a chair as the scene opens in grainy black and white. She remains tied through the whole thing, which seems bravely risqué in these times, but most gratifying to see. Into colour, the action is then shot from a tripod camera and can be seen from a second view on a big screen TV that's in shot, as Lex has the bound Vanessa suck him deep. There's spanking and Lex slides in under Vanessa for sex with the restrained girl, some of it strong, but the mood generally favours sensuality. It's crude, almost home-movie in quality terms, it's hard to see what's going on at times, but it's inventive, quietly kinky and a damn sight more interesting than the generic hardcore that makes up a good deal of Top Guns.
Overall
In the end, Top Guns might not be as entirely about egotistical male performers showing off their porking prowess as I'd feared, but it's not the best movie for checking out female talent either, with a focus firmly on straightforward, hardcore fuck action. I mention the nationalities of all the guys through the review, partly because that's the way they're billed, but also because that's the way Top Guns feels, like they're representing their countries in a great international sports sex competition. Only Toni Ribas works with the girl, the others mainly just stick it to 'em in a way that I can imagine their strictly fraternal male admirers can relate to. Give her one for me, brother!
Me? Well, I can't deny I have certain guys (primarily, but not exclusively, Rocco, Nacho, and indeed Mr Toni Ribas) who I trust to act as a conduit to my viewing pleasure by actually getting something more "real" from the girls, who, shockingly enough, can actually be an active part of it and not just be a platform for Mr Lexington Steele to demonstrate wizardry with his wand. Yes, the girls are indeed the major attraction, but it's how you get them to show something really special that matters to me. I really doubt if that's something you'll see in this movie. Though Lex makes modest steps away from the RLD formula, I'd very much like to see him develop the themes of the promising Vanessa Blue scene and make something worthy of a three-time AVN award winner. And he's modest with it!
DVD Comments
There are flaws in the camerawork in the original footage, and basic flaws at that to do with focus and exposure. The picture quality on the disc is reasonably good but when Erik Everhard's in the house, they need to watch the bit-rate a little more to avoid the blocking that occurs when he's doing his thing fast. Some of the music is a touch loud and intrusive over sound that's not always clear. One annoying flaw in the menu set up is that the disc seems to freeze up when I try to return to the extras menu from any of the extra features. Speaking of which, we have that intriguing little Van Bound bonus, another "Boner" scene with India teasing, a short behind the scenes clip of Angel and Ashley, photos and a big selection of Red Light District trailers.
