Fem: Aria

Directed with high style by the great Michael Ninn, gorgeously shot by Barry Wood and Chris Hall, and populated by 10 of smutdom's finest, this is certainly the best-looking all-girl tape of the year thus far.

Unfortunately, with the exception of the smoldering Shay Sights/Wanda Curtis pairing, the sex throughout this five-scene production is a bit limp.

Still, this is a very impressive piece of eye candy that should turn on your all-girl aficionados, just not necessarily get them off.

Each of the tape's five couplings follows the same basic drill (patterned after Ninn's superb VCA all-girl line of the mid 1990s, Diva): babe number one teases the camera, then babe number two follows suit, then both fillies get together for some finger and/or tongue and/or hardware play.

Standout scene four has twin beauties Sights and Curtis garbed in slick, shiny black PVC and thigh-high patent-leather boots, first prancing around a lush, atmospheric garage, then taking it indoors to do each other. Sights in particular looks absolutely mouth-watering, her tight-fitting top highlighting her humungous bolt-ons, and when she spreads her booted legs wide over the arms of a chair, well, the sound you just heard was a thousand loads a-launching. Pre-nom Sights for Best Tease Performance and the scene itself for Best All-Girler.

None of the other scenes - for the record, a Shayla LaVeaux/Jenna Haze high desert romp, a Laurie Wallace/Tanya Daniel Tuscany Villa encounter, a Michelle Michaels/Dru Barrymore poolside tryst and an Ashton Moore/Star E. Knight diner snack - approximate that type of heat. And a couple of them, such as the LaVeaux/Haze and the Wallace/Daniel turns, feel aborted, ending before they ever get a chance to really heat up. By comparison, the Sights/Curtis scene is generously long.

Pre-nom Fem Aria for Best All-Girl Feature, Ninn for Best Director - Non-Feature, Wood and Hall for Best Videography, Nan Vega for Best Editing, Loren Alexanders for Best Music for the varied (ambient, rock, smooth jazz, even some hip hop flavorings) soundtrack, Eddie Fung for Best Art Direction and the beautiful, sexy box cover for Best Packaging.

The DVD meanwhile, is clean and crisp, but gets points off for an authoring mistake (at least on our review copy): click on the Sights/Curtis chapter and up pops the Barrymore/Michaels coupling. Whoops.
